The Millsaps Lady Majors (9-11, 4-6) picked up an important win Sunday
in Jackson when they beat the Southwestern Lady Pirates, the team that
was one game behind them in the SCAC standings, 59-53.
The Lady Majors jumped out to a big lead early in the first half which
was at one point 24-8, but the Lady Pirates would close that gap to ten,
31-21 entering the halftime break. The Lady Pirates came out in the second
half and shot 50 percent from the floor, but the Lady Majors held on to
their lead to get the win.
Kelsey McKnight led the Majors in scoring 13 points and three steals
and Leslie Frese and Jillian Compton finished with 11 points each. Compton
had six rebounds in the win.
Sara Greer had five points and five assists and Martha McDaniel's shot
seems to be coming back as she finished with eight points and four boards.
The Lady Majors play the best team in the SCAC on Sunday in DePauw, but
first on Friday, the Lady Majors play another team that is behind them
in the SCAC standings in Rose-Hulman.
