CLINTON -- With
a running time of 17:07.53 in the men's 5K at the MC Invitational this past
weekend, senior Sam Gay won the race and helped lead Millsaps to a first place
finish
over
tournament
host Mississippi College and Jackson State University in the first event of 2007.
Behind Gay's first place time (5:30.8 average mile), two teammates also
finished in the Top 10, with fellow senior
Jake
Boettcher
finishing fifth
with
a
time
of 18:23.20 and junior Taylor Weglicki finishing 10th with a time of 18:53.61.
For the host Choctaws, Will Clingon crossed the finish line second with a time
of 17:25.61, nearly 18 seconds behind Gay's pace, and Donnie Gable finished
seventh at 18:40.01.
Jackson State University finished three and four as Stanley Martin and Kevin
Itima crossed the line with times of 17:47.58 and 18:02.49.
Evan Parker was the 12th finisher in the race for the Majors in his
first competition at the collegiate level, finishing with a time of 19:13.40
while teammates Stephen Butler (14th), Lloyd Gray (16th) and Travis Tutor (23rd)
closed out the times for Millsaps.
The next event for the men will take place Friday, Sept. 7, at 4:30 p.m. in
Hattiesburg.
