JACKSON
-- Millsaps College head coach Mike DuBose and his
highly talented staff welcomed 115 football student-athletes
to
campus on Friday in preparations to defend their 2006 SCAC
football crown.
Fresh off a 7-4 season and a berth in the NCAA Division III
playoffs, the Majors return 60 players from last year and welcome
the new arrival of 55 players to the team.
“We’re very excited about the start of the 2007
season,” DuBose said. “Last year’s football
team raised the bar here and I’m anxious to see if this
football team and senior class can respond and raise the bar
for next year’s class. I’m encouraged by the number
of players we have, the squad has grown tremendously and the
guys coming in are a good looking group of kids. Our coaches
have done a tremendous job with recruiting in the offseason and
we’re ready to start practice tomorrow at 3 p.m.”
The Majors will begin with five consecutive 1-A-Day practices
on Saturday before jumping into 2-A-Day drills Thursday, Aug.
16 on Harper Davis Field.
Just like
last year’s
preseason, the Majors will entertain the Blazers in a scrimmage
before the season-opener at Mississippi
College on Thursday, Aug. 30. Millsaps and Belhaven are scheduled
to scrimmage at H.T. Newell Field on the campus of Bailey High
School at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18.
