JACKSON
-- With the nationally-televised LSU/Mississippi
State game kicking off on ESPN at 7 p.m. in Starkville, the
Millsaps Majors and the Mississippi College Choctaws will
meet for the 45th time at Robinson-Hale Stadium in Clinton
at 6:59 p.m. to boast the first college football game in
the state of Mississippi.
Picked to repeat as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Champions under second-year head coach Mike DuBose, the Majors
enter tonight’s contest with 60 new faces and 19 of
22 starters returning from a 7-4 season (6-0 SCAC) a year
ago.
Millsaps will play “away” from Harper Davis Field
to open the season for the first time since 1998 when they
traveled to Sherman, Texas, and defeated SCAC foe Austin
College 27-10.
The Majors and the Choctaws battled it out in the Backyard
Brawl at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium from 2000-04,
serving as a neutral season-opener for both teams.
Mississippi College and head coach Norman Joseph enter the
2007 season armed with one of the more potent offenses in
the nation with the return of seven starters. Fresh off a
5-5 (3-5 ASC) season without starting quarterback Adam Shaffer
who was sidelined with a season-ending injury against the
Majors last year, the Choctaws were tabbed third in the tough
American Southwest Conference preseason voting.
Both schools will cover the game on the radio, with Mississippi
College fans welcomed through Stretch Internet and Majors
fans welcomed through ESPN Radio 1240 AM or online at www.espnradio1240.com.
In addition to radio, MC will offer live video for fans through
the purchase of a Choctaws All Access Pass. A monthly rate
is offered for $9.95 which allows access for tonight’s
game and then the option to cancel your subscription at any
time.
