Lawrimore Named SCAC Special Teams Player of the Week
Junior punter from Tampa, Fla., sets new school record with 77-yard boot against Belhaven

September 16, 2008

SUWANEE, Ga. – William Lawrimore of Millsaps College, a 5-8, 169-pound junior punter from Tampa, Fla., has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week for games played Thursday, September 11 – Sunday, September 14 and has also been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.

Lawrimore had hands down his best outing in a Millsaps uniform in a 34-14 win over Belhaven, averaging 48.3 yards-per-punt in seven punts, including two that fell inside the 20-yard line and one touchback.

With his feet standing in the middle of the Majors' end zone midway through the 3rd quarter with a 6-point lead and the game uncertain, Lawrimore had a game-changing boot that traveled a school-record 77 yards down to the Blazers’ 10-yard line. Millsaps would score two plays later after Marcus Stokes recovered a Belhaven fumble to open the game up and eventually win by 20.

The Majors will open SCAC play on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Harper Davis Field, welcoming the Austin College 'Roos to Jackson. Millsaps has won 12 of its last 13 league games and knocked of AC last year 43-10.
