Majors Earn Highest Ranking Since 1980 Undefeated Season
Millsaps has won 18 of its last 21 overall, outscoring SCAC opponents by an average of 29.9 ppg

September 23, 2008

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Millsaps jumped three spots to No. 19 in this week's D3football.com Top 25 Poll after a 41-7 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opening win over Austin College in Jackson, the Majors' highest ranking in the polls since the 1980 undefeated season when they finished at No. 13.

Millsaps is off to its first 3-0 start since the 1996 SCAC Championship season behind the arm of senior QB Juan Joseph who has completed 58-of-98 (59.2 percent) passes for 677 yards and eight TDs against just one INT and a trio of 100-yard receivers. Defensively, seniors Michael Sims and Cap White are leading the team in tackles with 23 and 19, respectively.

The Majors have been ranked each of the last two seasons for just one week, but are winning over voters with big wins over then 25th-ranked Mississippi College 42-6, Belhaven 34-14 and Austin College 41-7.

Millsaps will face its first road test in league play this weekend, traveling to Memphis, Tenn., to face off with the Rhodes College Lynx (1-1). The Majors have won four-straight against the Lynx and have not lost a SCAC road game in the Mike DuBose era (7-0 overall). The game will be streamed live on the internet at www.atwsportscast.com with Derrel Palmer handling play-by-play duties.
