MEMPHIS,
Tenn. – Senior
QB Juan Joseph completed 27-of-42 passes for 300 yards and
a school-record six TDs and fellow senior Eric McCarty tied
a single-game record by hauling in three of those as 19th-ranked
Millsaps stayed perfect in league play and on the season with
a lopsided 49-2 win at Rhodes.
Senior
receiver Burt Pereira also had a career afternoon, grabbing 10
balls for 138 yards and two TDs.
Not
to be outdone, the Millsaps defense forced nine turnovers and
limited the Lynx offense to just 135 total yards of offense
and
eight
first downs. Leading the way were a trio of seniors in Denarold
Anderson who had eight tackles and a sack, Jacob Hanberry with
seven tackles and a forced fumble and Cap White with seven tackles
and an interception. Freshman Kenny Reeves also had a 16-yard
INT return for a touchdown.
Rhodes
(1-2, 0-1 SCAC) controlled the clock by an overwhelming 51:06
to 23:54 margin, but couldn't stop the league's top-ranked offense
who had 382 total yards and their fifth 40+ point game in the
last six overall.
A
28-0 halftime lead behind four Joseph TD tosses
was more than enough for Millsaps to cruise to its sixth-straight
win overall, limiting the Lynx to only two points off a safety
in the third quarter via Jake Whittaker.
Millsaps
moved to 4-0 on the year in the win, the first time
since the 1996 SCAC Championship season, and won its 14th league
game in 15 tries under third-year head coach Mike DuBose. The
Majors are outscoring league opponents over that span 612-157
(32.5 ppg average).
The
Majors face one of the conference's top teams in DePauw University
(3-0, 2-0 SCAC) next Saturday in Jackson with kickoff set for
1 p.m. Pregame begins at 12:45 on www.atwsportscast.com.
