NORWALK, Conn. -- As chosen by the South Region sports
information directors and D3football.com staff, a total of 76 players
were selected to the 2006 All-South Region Team, with five student-athletes
representing Millsaps College.
Whereas football is a team sport, it takes a handful of individual
efforts to truly carry a team to victory.
Senior return specialist/wide receiver Chris Jackson earned first
team honors, while QB Juan Joseph, DT Casey Younger, LB Shawn Gillenwater
and CB Marcus Harris landed on the third team.
After posting
the school’s
first winning season in five years, first 7-win season since
1996, first playoff berth in 31
years and first conference championship in 10 years, Millsaps football
is back on the map.
Picked to finish sixth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
and counted out by every preseason voter in the nation, the Majors
did not have a single preseason selection to the D3football.com
All-South Region Team or All-America Team.
Those selected to the All-South Region Team are automatically
thrown back into the pot to receive All-America honors, which will
be released at the conclusion of the NCAA Division III football
season.
