JACKSON -- Preseason
has come and gone and the Millsaps men's soccer team is heading
to Memphis, Tenn., this weekend for their first competition
of the 2007 season, facing off with Principia and Washington University
on
the campus of Rhodes College.
"The guys have been working real hard," fifth-year head coach Lee
Johnson said. "We're looking forward to see if we can make the
adjustments from last year to this year. It all starts this weekend
in Memphis."
The Majors take on Principia (Ill.) in their season-opener on Saturday
at 2 p.m., hoping to avenge a 4-0 loss to the Panthers in
the Rhodes Classic in 2004. The two teams meet for the third time
overall with the series knotted at 1-1 (Millsaps won 3-0
in 1993).
Sunday's matchup with Washington University (Mo.) marks the second
in three seasons at the Classic, with the Bears coming out victorious
in 2005 by a score of 3-0.
Millsaps has posted a 12-9-2 all-time record in the Rhodes Classic,
having won four of its last six matches over Webster, Rust (twice)
and Blackburn.
