Buffington Nets Game-Winner to Give Visiting MC 3-1 Victory
Millsaps to continue a 4-game homestand on Saturday, Sept. 13 with Belhaven

September 7, 2008

JACKSON Phillip Buffington netted the go-ahead goal for MS College in the 29th minute and later added the game-winner in the 78th minute as the visiting Choctaws topped the host Millsaps Majors 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Harper Davis Field.

After a 1-0 Choctaw lead held serve into the 77th minute, Millsaps' Colin Thompson delivered the equalizer off a perfectly played ball from Todd Schneck and fired it past a diving Andrew Dailey.

The 1-1 tie didn't last long, however, as MS College regained a 2-1 advantage just 37 seconds later when Barry Prather hooked up with Buffington for his second goal of the day. The goal put Buffington one shy of the school's career scoring record.

Nick Murry added another late goal for the Chocs in the 85th minute to make the final margin look worse than the actual game played out, a 3-1 win.

Millsaps was outshot in the contest, 18-6 (13-3 on net), keeping goalie Domenick DiPaolo on his toes most of the day. The senior finished with 10 saves, but was hit with the loss to even his record between the posts to 2-2.

The Majors will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 14, playing host to Belhaven College and Piedmont College at Noon both days. Those will also be streamed live on the internet at www.atwsportscast.com.
