Majors Blank LaGrange to Complete Blemish Free Weekend
Milner posts second-consecutive shutout, Schneck, Dews, Mong net goals

September 16, 2007

LaGRANGE, Ga. -- Junior forward Todd Schneck netted his first goal of the season in the 37th minute to break a scoreless tie and senior goalkeeper Jake Milner recorded his second shutout in as many tries as Millsaps knocked off LaGrange 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Entering the weekend at 0-3-0 without junior midfielder Anthony Amaya who was sidelined with a groin injury, the Majors outplayed Huntingdon College on Friday for a 2-0 win and followed that up with an impressive shutout of the Panthers on Sunday.

"It's a huge relief to get these two wins under our belts," head coach Lee Johnson said. "It builds a lot of confidence going into the weekend with both Trinity and Southwestern. The defense played really well and allowed our offense to possess the ball more."

Sophomore Andres Colocho dished out two of the Majors' three assists on the afternoon, (both in the first half) feeding Schneck in the 37th minute and Drew Dews Jr. in the 41st minute to give Millsaps a 2-0 halftime edge.

Sophomore Brandon Mong recorded the first goal of his Millsaps career in the 58th minute for the final 3-0 margin, using fellow sophomore Justin Burns' first assist of the year.

Millsaps controlled LaGrange on the stat sheet from the opening whistle, out shooting the Panthers by a 17-5 margin and earning five more corners in their fifth-straight road affair.

The Majors will have their work cut out for them this weekend, playing host to the nation's top-ranked team and SCAC foe Trinity University (6-0-0) in the conference-opener Friday at 8 p.m. before a meeting with Southwestern University (4-3-1) at noon on Sunday.

Millsaps fell to Trinity 4-2 last year in San Antonio and is 0-16 all-time versus the Tigers. The Majors are 4-7-2 all-time versus the Pirates with their last win coming in 2005.
