Thompson Nets First Career Goals in 3-1 Win over 'Roos
Millsaps snaps 16-match winless streak in SCAC play

September 30, 2007

JACKSON -- Sophomore midfielder Colin Thompson netted the first two goals of his Millsaps career -- both in the first half -- and senior goalkeeper Jake Milner notched 10 saves as the Majors snapped a 16-match winless streak in SCAC play with a 3-1 win over Austin College on Sunday afternoon at Harper Davis Field.

Thompson's goal in the 27th minute off an assist from Corey Beaumont broke a scoreless tie and gave Millsaps (3-6, 1-3 SCAC) an early cushion that they would never surrender.

Just minutes before halftime, the Majors stretched their lead out to 2-0 when Thompson beat 'Roos keeper Matt Dickinson for a second time. Junior Todd Schneck was credited with the assist, picking up his second in as many matches and adding to his team-leading total of three with Andres Colocho.

Two minutes into the second half, Austin College 0-9-1 (0-2 SCAC) cut the gap to 2-1, capitalizing on a well played ball from John Martinez to Josh Pollock to beat Milner in the lower right corner of the net.

That's as close as the visitors would get, however, as sophomore Aaron Hyatt added an insurance goal for the Majors in the 90th minute off another Beaumont assist to win the match 3-1 and earn their first three points of the season in SCAC play.

The match ended a four-game homestand for the Majors as they will now travel to Centre and DePauw next weekend to continue conference action. They will return home Saturday, Oct. 13, to host Birmingham-Southern in a 2 p.m. contest.
