SUWANEE, Ga. --
After picking up 21 saves on the weekend to guide the Majors
to a conference
split, including their first SCAC win of the year, senior goalkeeper
Jake Milner of Flowood has been named the SCAC Defensive Player
of the Week.
A product of Northwest Rankin HS, Milner
stuffed
11 shots on Friday in a 3-2, double overtime loss on an “own
goal” to
Austin College and recorded 10 saves in a 3-1 win on
Sunday to give
Millsaps
its first SCAC
win
in 16 matches dating back to 2005.
Through nine games, Milner ranks first in the league in saves (67),
second in saves-per-game (7.40) and third in shutout wins (2).
He finished 2006 as the conference leader in saves-per-game (6.50)
and ranked third in total saves (91).
Just two weeks after becoming the first Millsaps Player of the
Week selection since 1993, Milner has now earned the award twice
in a span of three weeks.
Sunday's match concluded a four-game homestand at Harper Davis
Field, as the Majors will hit the road for their next two contests,
facing off with the top two teams in the SCAC in Centre College
and DePauw University.
