SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the league's head coaches, Trinity University, the 2004 SCAC men's soccer champions and current No. 1 team in the nation, and Oglethorpe University, the season's best turnaround story, were each rewarded with two of the major post-season conference awards.

Trinity senior forward Chris Quinn was chosen as SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year and his teammate Andrew Wade, a senior defender, was tabbed as SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year.

For Oglethorpe, first-year defender David Mueller was voted the SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year while Petrels' head coach Jon Akin was chosen as SCAC Coach-of-the-Year.

Despite a season-ending injury, Chris Quinn remains second on the team with 14 goals in 13 games, as well as 34 total points. A 2003 All-America selection and three-time All-SCAC performer, Quinn tied the school record with 25 goals last season, and was third in school history with 56 points. For his career, Quinn is one of Trinity's all-time greats, finishing second in both goals scored (59) and points (141), as well as tied for seventh in assists (23). He will finish his career in the top four in conference history for both goals scored and total points. Quinn is one of only six players in school history to score more than 100 career points, and one of only three Tigers to ever reach 50 or more career goals.

In being selected the league's Offensive POTY, Quinn received seven votes from the coaches. Alex Marsden of Sewanee-University of the South received two votes and Frank Monteleone of Oglethorpe received one vote in the balloting.

Andrew Wade transferred to Trinity in 2002, and the team has not lost a regular season game since (63-1-2 overall) - a feat in which Wade has played a major role for the Tiger defense that has yielded only 33 goals in 66 games during his career. In addition to his defense prowess, Wade has scored 10 goals and 11 assists during his three-year career at Trinity, including a career-best five goals and six assists this season.

Wade received five votes in the Defensive POTY voting, followed by Jon Nelson of Rhodes College with three votes. Stan Simek of Centre College and Joe Mattingly of Southwestern University each received one vote.

David Mueller was Oglethorpe's most versatile player this year; exhibiting great awareness and true soccer smarts. Despite being a freshman, Mueller proved to be a great leader for the young Petrels. As a defensive midfielder, he made some critical runs with and without the ball on key moments throughout the season - even from deep positions that broke down opponents' defenses. Mueller finished his initial college campaign with three goals and five assists for 11 points and was the league's Defensive Player-of-the-Week in Week 6.

Mueller received six votes to take the league's Newcomer-of-the-Year honor. Chris Creger of Centre, Jonathan McConnell of Oglethorpe, Matt Trowbridge of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Kyle Altman of Trinity all received one vote each in the balloting.

Coach Jon Akin guided the Oglethorpe men to a 12-7 overall record and a second place finish in the SCAC with seven wins in nine conference contests, the best finish for the Petrels since 1992. In just his second year at Oglethorpe, Akin turned around a program that had finished 1-7-1; 4-10-2 a year ago. The 12 victories by the 2004 squad ties the '92 team's single-season, school-high win total, and, in a season of firsts, Oglethorpe beat Rhodes for the first time since joining the SCAC in 1991, and swept Centre and Sewanee for the first time since 1992.

Akin received six votes from his peers in the COTY voting while Trinity's Paul McGinlay picked up the other four votes.
