Seniors Treated to 5-0 Win in Final Home Match of '07
Sooby breaks single-season school record with sixth shutout

October 30, 2007

JACKSON -- Junior Erin Sanford scored the go-ahead goal in the 23rd minute to pace the Millsaps offense and fellow junior Elizabeth Sooby notched her sixth shutout of the season between the posts to break a single-season school record, as the Majors blanked the visitors from Hendrix College 5-0 on Sunday in their final home match of the year.

With the win and two regular season games remaining at Sewanee-U of S and Oglethorpe, Millsaps (5-8-2, 1-4-2 SCAC) has earned its best mark since the 2000 season.

Sanford's goal (2) midway through the first half off a Leslie Robichaux assist broke open a scoreless match and gave Millsaps a 1-0 lead which they stretched to 2-0 on a Hayley Nemeth goal (5) in the 36th minute heading into the half.

The Majors' lead grew to 3-0 right out of the gate in the second period, using Robichaux's team-leading sixth goal of the year in the 47th minute over a diving Melissa Taylor. Sophomore Megan Sullivan was credited with the assist after playing a nice ball inside the Lady Warriors' box to a streaking Robichaux up the right wing.

Senior Callie Roth provided the final blow for the Majors over a span of 1 minute 37 seconds in the 61st and 63rd minute to record the final four points of her career at home, using a Robichaux assist on the first goal and firing two shots outside the reach of Taylor and into the back corner of the net.

Sooby had a relaxing day in the net for Millsaps due to the fact that Meredith Harris, Julia Fell, Kaycee Wright, Ann Blumer and Callaghan Starrett allowed just six shots all day on the defensive backline, picking up a save on the Warriors' only shot-on-goal in the 48th minute on senior Allison Wolf to keep her scoreless streak at 304 minutes.

As a team, the Majors outshot the Warriors 14-6 (8-1 shots-on-goal) on net and earned seven corner kicks to Hendrix's three.

Millsaps will wrap up its regular season on the road this weekend, facing off with Sewanee at 7 p.m. on Friday before a 11 a.m. matchup with Oglethorpe on Sunday.
