JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps Lady Majors fastpitch softball team took on SCAC Western Division rival Hendrix College on Saturday, March 25 in a double header. Winning both games of the day, Millsaps improved their team record to 8-11 (2-0) for the season. These were the fist conference games of the season for Millsaps.
In game one, Millsaps kept the score close against the Warriors. Both teams went scoreless in the first inning. The Lady Major’s were able to put up one run in the bottom of the second inning - the first run of the day. Lady Majors’ pitcher Erica Douglass scored the run on a Christina Sharp RBI single.
Hendrix retaliated in the top of the third, getting one run of their own, but Millsaps scored pulled ahead again in the bottom of the third. That run scored by Renee Green run proved to be the difference maker - giving Millsaps the 2-1 victory.
The game two match up saw even more offense from Millsaps as the Lady Majors scored eight runs in six batting innings. Scoring runs sporadically throughout the game, the Lady Majors were able to keep control of the contest, never falling behind Hendris. The Lady Warriors only managed to score one run in the Millsaps victory.
Tiffany Ladnier scored three runs for Millsaps while Josie Manley and Jessica Bowie each added two. Victoria Gibson also scored in the contest. |
