The Mississippi College Choctaws (2-0, 0-0) softball team took
both games from the Millsaps Majors (0-2, 0-0) Friday in Jackson.
The Majors took an early lead in game one from a Kylie Kurtz single
that scored Naffie Mooney, but in the fourth the Choctaws Anna Lisa
Posey drove in two runners and the Chocs led after the inning 3-1.
The Choctaws Wendy McMillian had three RBIs in the seventh when
she singled home three Choctaws. An error on the leftfielder allowed
the last two runners to score.
Mooney and Crystal Bender finished 2-3 each in game one. Kati Fleming
took the loss for the Majors and Katie Perry got the win for MC.
Game two was tied at 1-1 entering the fifth before McMillan singled
and later scored on an error. But the Majors picked up a run of
their own when Josie Manley hit a two-run homerun to left centerfield
scoring Bender.
Manley drove in Bender in the third inning, after a Bender bunt
single, when Manley hit a line drive to left centerfield. The Majors
led 3-2 after five innings.
Katie Taylor would score in the sixth off a Majors error, tying
the game at three.
Kathleen Hobbs led off the top of the ninth inning for the Chocs
when she reached on a error. She would later score when Alisha Farrish
hit a sacrifice fly to left field giving the Choctaws a 4-3 advantage.
Bender led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to right field
and Renee Green moved her to second on a pop-up to the catcher.
But Manley could not drive Bender in and the Majors lost 4-3.
