Lady Majors Againt Piedmont College

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Lady Majors Fastpitch team headed into the Friday, Mar. 3 double header with a 3-6 record, looking to pick up two wins against non-conference opponent Piedmont. However, Piedmont ending up taking both contests

In game one, Millsaps appeared to be on their way to a early win as starting pitcher Erica Douglass retired the top of the Piedmont order 1,2,3. Then in the bottom the first Tiffany Ladiner homered to left-center scoring three runs.

However, in the second inning, Piedmont got on track, scoring four runs on five hits. At the end of the second inning, Piedmont led Millsaps by a score of 4-3.

Piedmont opened the third inning with another run, but Millsaps retaliated, scoring two runs of their own, making the game a 5-5 tie. Ladiner scored off of a Helen Loring RBI and Loring scored off of a Victoria Gibson RBI.

The score remained tied until the final inning when Piedmont scored one run to win the game 6-5. Douglass took the loss for the Lady Majors, allowing and six runs on nine hits in seven innings or work.

In the second game of the afternoon, Piedmont took an early lead After scoring one run in the first and two more in the second inning, Piedmont lead the contest 3-0. Millsaps was held scoreless until the third inning when Jessica Bowie homered in her first at bat of the season, bringing the score to 3-1.

In the sixth inning, Piedmont gained two more runs off of three hits, but Millsaps was able to answer, garnering three hits of their own in the inning, scoring three runs. Christina Sharp scored off of a Josie Manley RBI while Ladiner and Manley both scored unearned runs off of a Piedmont throwing error.

At the end of the sixth, Piedmont held the 5-4 advantage. This lead held until the final inning when Piedmont scored four additional runs, winning the game 9-4.

The loss brings the Lady Majors record to 3-8 for the season. They will next play on Saturday, March 11 against LaGrange College in Montgomery, Ala.
