JACKSON -- The Millsaps men's and women's tennis teams
missed the preseason rankings, but it was not a big surprise as
they played in the Texas region for a change of scenery and schedule
accomodations.
"I still thought we might have had an outside chance," fourth-year
head coach Scott Pennington said. "But head to head matches negated
fall rankings."
Pennington expects the Majors and Lady Majors to have their teams
in the Top 25 in the regional rankings by 2007 spring's end with
the schedule featuring 10 regionally and nationally ranked teams.
That marks half the scheduled schools that have either or both
teams ranked, providing a great opportunity for the Majors. Millsaps
has scheduled four schools that are Division I and Division II
and three NAIA/JuCO programs.
Pennington and the Majors are having a great recruiting season
thus far and are excited about their chances in the upcoming year.
All-SCAC Tournament selections Russell Turley, Michael Puckett
and Leslie Frese are the seniors for this year's men's and women's
programs.
