TYLER, Texas -- In
a match where injuries and heat were more challenging than their
opponents, the Millsaps Lady Majors fell to 7-4 on the season with
a 7-2 defeat to tournament host UT-Tyler.
The Patriots won two of the three doubles matches, with Danielle
Domingues/Sophie Weber defeating Beth Sadler/Beth Piraino by a
score of 8-4 at the No. 2 slot and
and Kristen Coy/Brittany Ude dropping Beth Fossen/Allisa Vincent
8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
The duo of Emily Stewart/Allison Zakaras improved
to 8-0 this season at No. 1 doubles, taking care of business
for one of the Majors' two points on the afternoon,
downing the No. 5 ranked team of Beth Launius/Nicole Barrett.
Each
region takes the Top 8 singles and doubles to the NCAAs and if
the pair continue their ways they
have a great chance to make an appearance.
In other action, Dominguez,
Weber, and Ude would go on to win their singles matches, along
with No. 1 Beth Launius who won in straight-sets 6-0,
6-1, over Sadler.
At the No. 3 slot, Stewart was forced to retire due to leg pains
in her match with Nikki Barrett while Hillary Hamblen earned
the lone Millsaps singles point at No. 6 singles.
The Lady Majors will
close out their weekend with a match against conference foe Austin
College tomorrow in Tyler.
