This
year's Commencement activities will take place Friday and Saturday,
May 8-9, 2009. The festivities will begin with Baccalaureate
Services at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church, 305 N.
Congress Street. Baccalaureate begins at 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 8.
Dr. Dolphus Weary, former president of Mission Mississippi, will speak to the graduates. Weary, who retired from the Mission this past December, became an ordained minister in 1973. His autobiography, “I Ain’t Comin’ Home”, details his struggle to escape from racism and poverty in rural Mississippi – only to respond to God’s call to go home again. Though retired, Weary is still an integral part of Mission Mississippi, speaking in churches and working on donor development.
Graduates will meet in the courtyard in front of the church at 5:15 p.m. In case of rain, go to the chapel. Academic
dress (cap and gown) is required for all graduates.
The Galloway
sanctuary is always very crowded, so please have your family arrive
early to be assured adequate seating. A nursery, staffed by qualified
childcare workers, is provided by the church. Ushers will be available
to direct you to it. Handicapped parking is located directly behind
the main sanctuary, and there is an elevator for those who cannot
walk up the front steps. Millsaps campus safety staff will be at
the church to assist you.
