The Millsaps
Psychology Department is committed to the goal of cultivating majors
with a broad base of knowledge in psychology to prepare students
for advanced graduate study in psychology, to provide a background
for entry into one of the advanced professional schools (e.g., law,
medicine, business, education), or to enable the student to receive
a broad liberal arts education. The undergraduate psychology curriculum
emphasizes the principles and applications of substantive psychological
knowledge both as a natural science and as a social science. The
curriculum of the psychology department is designed to ensure that
each student will receive a strong historical background as well
as a thorough understanding of the "real world" application of psychology,
while at the same time allowing for and encouraging the opportunity
to pursue more depth in an interest area such as:
Cognitive
and Sensory Processes
Clinical/Counseling
Psychology
Developmental
Psychology
Experimental
Analysis of Behavior
Psychobiology
Social
Psychology
To further enhance the student's understanding of how new information
is obtained in the field of psychology we offer research
opportunities in the areas of:
Social
Psychology (Repressed, false and flashbulb memories, and
Suicide).
These represent
the major areas of interest of our faculty and provide students
with valuable experience and technical skills not offered in the
classroom.
