The Family Business Institute is designed for owners and other management of family-owned businesses. Initially, it will conduct four seminars each year where formal presentations will be made on critical subjects, followed by discussion and exchange of ideas between attendees. Participants can choose to attend one or more of the seminars that will be offered each year.
“The idea is to have a practical seminar built upon exchange of ideas, rather than a totally academic lecture approach,” said Howard McMillan, Dean of the Else School of Management. Seminars will feature expert speakers who will discuss an array of topics pertinent to family business owners, including succession, non-family participation, buy-sell agreements, and family conflicts. Participants will then break into small group sessions for discussion and an exchange of ideas.
The next seminar will take place Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Millsaps College Leggett Center.
