Lilly Internships:
Lilly Internships are an opportunity to connect academic learning to exploration
of vital issues of meaning, purpose, vocation, and service. Building upon
“The Meaning of Work” course, Lilly Internships add a professional
workplace, course assignments and a weekly class meeting, and a relationship
with a Mentor to deepen reflection upon vocation. The current syllabus
is here.
Over 200 Mentors have agreed to provide internships in a wide range of
fields. A listing is available here.
Lilly
Fellowships
Lilly Fellowships are
intended to attract a select group of students who have facility with
the language of vocation and are committed to employing it to further
their own exploration of calling and to take leadership in promoting and
guiding reflection upon vocation with other Millsaps students.
The current syllabus
is here.
Lilly
Service Commitments
If you are already engaged in volunteer service to others, you can convert
that service into a Lilly Service Commitment by working with the Initiative’s
Associate Director to devise an appropriate service covenant and reflection
component. Sustained service commitments involve approximately 120 of
service with added reflection under the supervision of the Associate Director.
Contact Raymond
Clothier at (601) 974-1470 to indicate your interest in this possibility.
Lilly
Education Fellowship
Education
majors who would like to be Lilly Fellows may use hours from the Field
Research in Reading course and Student Teaching to fulfill the internship
requirements. During Field Research in Reading they will participate in
the Lilly Intern Reflection Group and complete some of the writing assignments
for this course. During Student Teaching they will meet for a few times
with a mentor chosen by the Faith & Work Initiative and the Education
Department.
