Assistant Professor of History
Kristen T. Oertel teaches classes in early American history and specializes in courses on the Civil War and Reconstruction, African American history, Colonial America and the History of Sexuality. Her research focuses on race and gender in the 19th century and her first book, Bleeding Borders: Gender, Race and Violence in Pre-Civil War Kansas, will be published by Louisiana State University Press.
