Millsaps College Library Exhibits

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Millsaps Wilson Library

The Library will feature an exhibit titled “A Tradition of Excellence: Journals and Artifacts from travels of George Crawford Swearingen, Classics Professor and First College Librarian.” In addition, there is an exhibit about late History Professor Dr. Ross Moore and the library collection of Karl and Mildred Wolfe paintings may be enjoyed in the College Archives gallery.

Library exhibits are located in the library display cases, main floor and second floor and may be viewed any time the library is open: Friday 8-5, Saturday 1-5, and Sunday afternoon and evening, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Friday Forum - “Major Changes: Millsaps in 1968 and Fifty Years Later. “

This panel takes a close look at 1968 as a pivotal year for the United States and the world. Debates over escalating war, student activism, civil rights, and sexual equity swirled around the campus of Millsaps College. Alumni who were here during that time will reflect on their memories of campus life, academics, and national politics and how those years shaped their paths in years to come.

 

IVI Hour - Theon Johnson

IVI Hour sets one hour apart from our busy lives to hear from a faculty member or alum of Millsaps College. In an intimate setting, they share with faculty, students, and staff about their lives, their work, and lessons learned along the way. Theon Johnson receives an alumni award later today.

Midtown Tour

Tour led by ELSEWorks faculty members David Culpepper, Blakely Fender, Ray Grubbs, Phil Hardwick and Penny Prenshaw. Midtown businesses and ELSEWorks Business Analysts will be featured.

Alumni Awards and Athletics Hall of Fame

Country Club of Jackson

A celebration of the achievements of distinguished alumni in philanthropy, athletics, service and leadership. This year represents the 75th anniversary of the Navy V-12 program at Millsaps College. Join us at the Country Club of Jackson as we recognize these veterans and honor the 2018 Distinguished Alumni, the Outstanding Young Alumna, and winners of the Livesay, Leadership in Giving, and Spirit of Giving Awards. Millsaps Athletics will induct 2018 Hall of Fame members. The 25$ tickets include admission and hors d'oeuvres. Cash bar.

Tour and Viewing at the James Observatory

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Country Club of Jackson

Constructed in 1901 and the oldest building on campus, the observatory was restored in 2016. Come for a brief tour of the restored building and a viewing through the restored telescope. For further information, please contact Ben Nichols at bnichols229@gmail.com

Millsaps 2018 Homecoming Showcase

Hosted by the Millsaps College Department of Music in the Gertrude C. Ford Academic Complex Recital Hall

Class of 1968 Reunion Brunch

The Class of 1968 will celebrate their 50th reunion with a delicious brunch at the new Rickhouse Room at the Manship restaurant on Poplar Boulevard. Free parking is available in the adjacent parking garage. Tickets are 30$.

Enjoy great food and drink and activities for the kids while visiting with alumni and friends. Tickets include gourmet treats from Mangia Bene, two drink tickets and admission to the game. Seating will be provided for class reunions. Be sure to stop by the Else School of Management Tailgate adjacent to the alumni tent.Tickets are 20$ with registration 25$ at the gate.

All tickets are to be purchased at the gate. Gates open two hours before kickoff: $10 general admission, $50 chair back seats based on availability. Free for kids 10 and under. Game tickets are included in alumni tailgate price, $20 with registration or $25 at the door. Be sure to stop by the “Kappa Sigma Homecoming Floats Sale” inside the stadium for an ice cream float benefitting the Rev. Ed King Endowed Award and Scholarship. Floats are $2.00
