Building on its strategic plan to develop partnerships and influence across the street and around the globe, Millsaps College has announced its affiliation with Next Genius, an educational initiative based in Mumbai, India, that provides scholarship support for Indian high school students to pursue undergraduate studies in North America and Europe. Millsaps is one of 11 colleges in the United States to partner with Next Genius.
“Given our longstanding relationships with the Indian-American community in Mississippi, Millsaps College is excited to work with Next Genius to continue expanding our reach around the globe and attracting talented students from India who will add diverse perspectives to our classrooms and campus,” said Dr. Robert W. Pearigen, president of Millsaps College.
Pearigen is scheduled to travel to India in January 2018 to interview and select scholarship recipients in partnership with Next Genius.
This new collaboration with Next Genius also addresses other key components of the Millsaps strategic plan, such as efforts to provide students with new opportunities to purposefully engage with individuals and communities in the Jackson metropolitan area as well as in communities around the world.
Ranked by Forbes as the “best college in Mississippi,” Millsaps offers 84 major and minor degrees, pre-professional programs, and an option for a self-designed major. The College’s Compass Curriculum, implemented in the fall of 2015, engages all students (regardless of major) in courses of study designed to build a foundation in business, fine arts, mathematics, non-native language, STEM, and the natural and social world. Writing is also a major component of the curriculum.
The new International Perspectives Program (IPP), funded through the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, also provides students with a unique academic and living/learning experience on the Millsaps campus.
“This program integrates Millsaps students’ global experiences in ways that will enrich the entire Millsaps community,” said Molly West, director of international admission. “Together, these students will work closely with Millsaps faculty and visiting experts to examine global topics.”
Next Genius was founded in 2014, with the vision “to identify world changers, and connect them with outstanding educational and career opportunities.” Scholarship applicants must complete a two-stage process consisting of online assessments and personal interviews, and recipients are guaranteed college admission along with scholarship support for four years of study at one of the 11 partner colleges.
