The
Zeitah Excavations
Beth Guvrin Valley
Tel
Zeitah , Israel
The
Department of Religious Studies at Millsaps eagerly
participates in MIIAR by providing opportunities for
those interested in the archaeology of ancient Israel,
the ancient Near East, and biblical archaeology. For
our students, we provide classes in biblical literature
with archaeological components, and educational tours
to Middle Eastern sites are being planned.
Students interested in ancient Near Eastern, biblical,
or Jewish history and archaeology have the opportunity
to work at Tel
Zeitah in central Israel, an historically significant
site, with levels dating to the Iron Age II (Old Testament)
period.
Under
the direction of Professor
Ron E. Tappy, G. Albert Shoemaker Associate Professor
of Bible and Archaeology at the Pittsburgh
Theological Seminary, the Tel Zeitah field school
grants Millsaps students academic credit for their on-site
excavation training, as well as for lectures and historical
and geographic tours led by many prominent archaeologists
working in Israel.
Interested students should contact James
Bowley.
