In
1999, the Robert and Dee Leggett Foundation purchased 1000 acres
in Virginia's Loudoun Valley, located in the Blue Ridge mountains,
a short distance from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Shortly
thereafter, they founded the Blue
Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship (BRCES). One
goal of the BRCES is to study and better understand the Blue
Ridge eco-system and the human impacts on that system through
time.
Since
2000, Millsaps college faculty and students have contributed
to that effort, by conducting archaeological survey of the BRCES,
excavating one of its many archaeological sites, and conducting
archival research. To learn more about our research at the BRCES,

Each May-June, the Millsaps College Archaeological Field School
is held at the BRCES. Students of all ages and from all departments
are welcome to participate. No previous experience is necessary.
