"A Shining Light: Millsaps in the Civil Rights Movement: A 50-Year Retrospective," a roundtable discussion of the civil rights movement, is scheduled from 2:30-4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6 in the Leggett Center at Millsaps College.
Participants in the discussion will include Jon Meacham, Pulitzer Prize-winning author, journalist, and former Newsweek editor; former Governor William Winter; Jerry Mitchell, investigative reporter for The Clarion-Ledger and a 2009 MacArthur Fellow; Jeanne Luckett, a Millsaps alumna and owner of Luckett Communications LLC; and Dr. Leslie McLemore, interim president of Jackson State University, former interim Jackson mayor and activist.
The roundtable discussion is free and open to the public. It is among special events scheduled in conjunction with the inauguration of Dr. Robert W. Pearigen as the eleventh president of Millsaps College.
The inauguration is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. on October 7 outdoors in the Bowl at Millsaps.
