The Estelle Bell Concert Series is proud to annually present the gold medal winner of the Shreveport Symphony's Nena Plant Wideman Piano Competition. The Wideman competition is held in Shreveport, La., and the winner is awarded a professional performance as soloist in a concerto with the Shreveport Symphony. The Wideman Competition has a long and distinguished history of choosing young artists who have gone on to international careers, including Stanislav Ioudenitch who, following his win in Shreveport, went on to capture first prize at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Recent winners include Esther Park, who recently captured the Gina Bachauer Prize at the Juilliard School, and Kostyantyn Travinskyy, an exciting young pianist from the Ukraine who specializes in the music of Liszt. This spring the Bell series will engage the most recent recipient of the Wideman prize, Tatiana Tessman, from Russia. She was the First Prize co-winner with Ji Yeon Shin of Korea. This is always an event looked forward to with excitement and anticipation.
