Millsaps College Places 29th Among Liberal Arts Colleges Nationwide

(06/19/08)

The Center for College Affordability & Productivity recently ranked Millsaps College No. 29 among all liberal arts colleges and universities in the nation based on satisfaction and outcome-oriented benchmarks.

Millsaps is the only liberal arts college in Mississippi ranked in the study.

The CCAP measures student evaluations, college graduation rates, percentage of students winning nationally competitive awards and post-graduate success from Who’s Who in America. The independent, not-for-profit center is based in Washington, D.C. and helps facilitate a broader dialogue on the issues and problems facing institutes of higher education.

“These rankings reinforce our own findings, that Millsaps is a nationally competitive liberal arts college that is an affordable choice among the nation’s top colleges,” said Millsaps College President Frances Lucas.

“We strive to be one of the best in the nation for developing compassionate and principled leaders and citizens for a global society.”

The CCAP results-based rankings offer an alternative to the U.S. News & World Report rankings which evaluate and rank schools based on factors inside the institutions such as faculty-student ratios, admissions selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

In an article releasing the results in last month’s Forbes magazine, CCAP director Richard Vedder, compared the U.S. News rankings to a chef being judged on just the ingredients he or she uses and not the whole meal.

Millsaps College is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. Other rankings include being one of only 40 colleges included in Colleges That Changes Lives; a best buy in Barron’s Best Buys in Education; and one of Princeton Review’s “Best Southeastern Colleges.”
