Millsaps College will host a Hot Topics Seminar on the issue of illegal and legal immigration on Saturday, March 8. One-half hour of CEU credit is available for teachers.
The conference will look at issues such as policies of amnesty for illegal immigrants, building physical barriers on the U.S. border, economic factors, moral issues of help and rescue and the episodes of other immigration crises in U.S. history.
Speakers include Ramon Figueroa, associate professor of Spanish at Millsaps; Patrick Hopkins, associate professor of philosophy at Millsaps; Erik Fleming, Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance; and Mike Oropenza, Catholic Charities of Jackson.
