Millsaps College is One of "366 Best Colleges"

(8/31/07)

Princeton ReviewMillsaps College is featured in The Princeton Review’s 2008 edition of its annual book, “Best 366 Colleges,” for which only about 15% of the four-year colleges in America were chosen. In its profile, The Princeton Review says that “High school seniors looking for a quality liberal arts college with Southern charm should look no further than Millsaps.”

The two-page profile also quotes extensively from Millsaps students, who said, “The brochures are true! The classes are not too big, the instructors love what they do (and do it well), upperclassmen are helpful, and the out-of-class experience is fun.”

In the survey section of the book, Millsaps College ranked 14th in “Town-Gown Relations Are Great,” recognizing the amicable relationship the college enjoys with the city of Jackson. From internships with community businesspeople to service opportunities with those in need, Millsaps students are highly engaged with the capital city.

Millsaps also placed 20th in “Major Frat and Sorority Scene,” indicating a high proportion of students who choose to participate in one of Millsaps’ 12 national Greek organizations. Millsaps fraternities and sororities encourage academic excellence, with a cumulative GPA among Greek men of 3.0 and among Greek women of 3.2, while fostering civic engagement with countless philanthropic projects and partnerships each year.

These survey rankings come from questionnaires The Princeton Review dispersed among 120,000 students attending the 366 colleges (about 325 per campus on average). The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges in the book 1 to 366 in any single category.

Earlier this year, The Princeton Review also included Millsaps in the 2008 edition of its book “Best Value Colleges,” which profiles 165 colleges across the country based on their excellent academics, generous financial aid packages and/or relatively low costs of attendance. The Princeton Review’s “Best 282 Business Schools” has also recognized the Millsaps College Else School of Management, ranking it 8th in the category “Best Professors,” just above Harvard and Duke.

Several other college guides consistently feature Millsaps College, including Colleges of Distinction (www.collegesofdistinction.com), Barron’s “Best Buys in College Education,” “The Fiske Guide to Colleges,” “The Insider’s Guide to Colleges,” “Colleges That Encourage Character Development,” “Great Colleges of the Real World” and Loren Pope’s “Colleges That Change Lives.”
