(Feb. 26, 2003)

Dr. Jane GoodallYesterday morning, Millsaps College announced its upcoming Nova Series program, which will feature Dr. Jane Goodall. Phone lines at the Jackson college rang briskly until shortly after noon, when all tickets offered to the public sold out. Millsaps officials knew there would be keen interest in the program and were gratified by the warm response from the general public.

"Tickets to this event sold out within four hours," said Dr. Randy Boxx, Dean of the Millsaps Else School of Management. "That type of enthusiastic response is a testament to the need for educational programs such as this in the Jackson area. The goal of the Nova Series is to continue presenting speakers who have played transforming roles in our society."

The College has established a waiting list for those who have not yet purchased tickets to the April 8 presentation, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Millsaps Christian Center Auditorium. In addition to the live presentation in the Christian Center, college officials will broadcast the program via closed-circuit television in at least two other campus venues, including the 450-seat Gertrude C. Ford Academic Complex recital hall. Due to contractual limitations, this will be the only broadcast of Goodall's presentation. Tickets to these screenings are free, and group reservations are welcome.

"Dr. Goodall is one of the most influential scientists of our time. She has changed our perceptions of humanity and its relationship to the larger world," said Dr. Richard Smith, Vice President and Dean of the College. "We are proud to bring a speaker of such international significance to Jackson, and we are particularly glad that we can offer a program of this caliber not only to our students, but also to those in our local community."

To add your name to the ticket waiting list for the live presentation or to request tickets to one of the closed-circuit screenings, call (601) 974-1020. If additional tickets to the live presentation become available, they will be sold in the order they were requested on the waiting list.
