The Family Business Institute at the Millsaps College Else School of Management will offer a seminar entitled "Issues in Family-Owned Business" on Thursday, Jan. 24, in the Millsaps College Leggett Center. The seminar will touch on the subjects of determining the purpose of your business, estate planning for family business owners and guidelines for managing people-related challenges in family-owned businesses. Speakers include Harold D. Miller Jr. and Jay Travis III of Butler, Snow, Omara, Stevens & Cannada and Allen Watson of Workplace Solutions Group.
Con Maloney of Cowboy Maloney’s Electric City will give the keynote address and several members of the Family Business Institute’s advisory board will take part in a panel discussion on how to lead a family business. Panelists include Jerry Crystal, board chairman, Jackson Iron & Metal; Bill Croswell, chief executive officer, CraftCroswell, Inc.; and Jim Coggin, former executive, Saks Incorporated.
Program fee is $500 and $150 for additional family members or employees, which covers program materials, breakfast and lunch, and the evening social reception.
