On Thursday and Friday, Dec. 6-7, and on Wednesday and Friday, Dec. 12 and 14, the Mississippi Puppetry Guild, in cooperation with the Millsaps College Department of Performing Arts, will present puppet versions of “Nutcracker Sweets,” with music by Tchaikovsky, and “Peter and the Wolf,” with music by Prokofiev.
The shows will run at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on each day in the Christian Center Auditorium at Millsaps College. Cost is $6 per person, with a group rate of $5 per person for a group of 10. Each group of 10 earns one free teacher admission. For more information, please see www.mspuppetry.com, or call 601-977-9840.
These classic stories and music will be presented using the unique Czech black theatre technique. Interaction between nearly life-sized puppets and animated objects and the real-life narrator will create the feel of a big-screen animated cartoon in a whirlwind of colors that is sure to bring the laughter and joy of the season to children’s faces.
The puppets are designed by Jarmila Zapletal, and “The Nutcracker Suite” performance is directed by Peter Zapletal.
