PHILOSOPHY WEEKEND 2005
WORK & PLAY

All Philosophy majors, minors, and friends were invited to spend the weekend of February 11-13 on the two-day Philosophy Department Retreat. We set out to mix philosophy discussions (sparked by a series of presentations on EVIL by the dept. faculty) with liberal amounts of free time (which could be time to work on your own stuff) and collective fun (cooking, music, movies etc.). And the Philosophy Department picked up the entire bill.

Friday, February 11

3:00 Carpool from Christian Center

6:00-ish Dinner (students' turn to fix)

7:00 Ted Ammon, “Evil Kicks It Up a Notch“

Film, fun, and the profound solitude option

Saturday, February 12

8:00 Breakfast available at the Twin Lakes caf

10:30 Kristen Brown, “What is Evil? A Genealogical (or Phenomenological?) Account“

12:00 Lunch at their caf

1:00 Ropes challenge; free time

6:00 Dinner (professors' turn to fix)

7:00 Patrick Hopkins, “God, Hope, and Evolution: The Best Explanation for Evil...and Why We Should Take Over the Universe No Matter What”

Film, fun, and profound solitude options again

Sunday, February 13

7:30 Breakfast available at the Twin Lakes caf

10:00 Steve Smith, “Can Evil Be Measured? A Pneumatological Investigation”

11:30 Depart
