Department of Psychology

The Millsaps Psychology Department is committed to the goal of cultivating majors with a broad base of knowledge in psychology to prepare students for advanced graduate study in psychology, to provide a background for entry into one of the advanced professional schools (e.g., law, medicine, business, education), or to enable the student to receive a broad liberal arts education. The undergraduate psychology curriculum emphasizes the principles and applications of substantive psychological knowledge both as a natural science and as a social science. The curriculum of the psychology department is designed to ensure that each student will receive a strong historical background as well as a thorough understanding of the “real world” application of psychology, while at the same time allowing for and encouraging the opportunity to pursue more depth in an interest area such as: • Cognitive and Sensory Processes • Counseling Psychology • Developmental Psychology • Experimental Analysis of Behavior • Psychobiology • Social Psychology.
