Memphis is a city known for Graceland and the Peabody Hotel, Beale Street and Sun Records, the Pyramid and the River. And then, of course, there are its monsters.

Yes, monsters.

Beecher Smith has edited and contributed to Monsters from Memphis and More Monsters from Memphis, bringing together 60 tales of science fiction, fantasy, and horror by two dozen writers. For genre readers and lovers of all things Memphisonian, Smith’s Monsters series is a real treat.

A lawyer by trade (Elvis Presley was a client), Smith published more than 100 poems and 40 short stories and articles. He received the Darrell Award for best horror/science fiction/ fantasy story from the Mid-South Science Fiction Association in 1995 and 1996, and Prose Writer of the Year Award from the Mid South Writers’ Association in 1997.

Five stories from Monsters won honorable mention in The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror, and the second installment is sure to win accolades too.
