![]() Majors Defeat MC 20-19! More than ten thousand football fans gathered in Jackson Memorial Stadium on September 2 to witness the long-awaited rematch between the Millsaps Majors and the Mississippi College Choctaws. The two teams hadnt faced each other in Holy Wars since 1959, when the Choctaws defeated the Majors 26-6. This year, the Millsaps football centennial season, the Majors were out for revenge. The heavily favored MC put the first points on the scoreboard with a touchdown pass. Millsaps answered in the second quarter with senior Matt Walkers touchdown and senior Derrick McNeals kick. MC scored another touchdown, but the extra point kick was blocked, bringing the halftime score to 13-7 MC. In the second half, Millsaps junior Brent LeJeune ran in a touchdown, and McNeal made another extra point. MC replied with a touchdown pass, but their failed two-point conversion attempt to put them ahead only 19-14. The Majors McNeal was the star of the last stretch. He kicked a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to pull Millsaps within three points. The Millsaps defense held off Choctaw drives, while the offense made a last-minute push to the 29-yard line where McNeal made another field goal with 16 seconds left for the 20-19 victory. The Millsaps defense was strong with sophomores Jed Mooney and William Jorden each making 10 tackles. Junior Jeff McIntyre posted two quarterback sacks for 17 yards, and Billy Williams made three tackles for a loss of 11 yards, including a sack. I am proud of these players and what they accomplished here tonight, said Coach Tyler. They showed heart and determination. For the season, the Majors are 5-5, and many of the teams best players are returning next year. PREVIOUS PAGE | PAGE 1 OF 1 | NEXT PAGE |
