Teresa Arrington
(mod. Lang.) attended the Workshop in Inter- national Business for Foreign
language Specialists at the University Urbana-Champaign. Collin
Asmus (art) has artwork in the National Exhibition at the Chuck
Levitan Gallery in New York, the Emerging Artist Exhibi- tion in Fort Worth,
Texas, and the National Juried Small Painting Exhibition at the Wichita
(Kansas) Art Center. Chris Brunt (music) has
been named organist for Galloway UMC. Brunt, David
Davis (hist.), Charles Sallis (hist.),
and Harrylyn Sallis (ad. learn.) attended
the Rhodes College Conference on Teaching the Humanities, where Charles
Sallis and Davis participated in panel discussions. Kimberly
Burke (mgt.) and David Culpepper’s
(mgt.) paper on the tax theory of executive compensation plans has been
accepted by The Journal of Accounting and Finance Research. Gail
Buzhardt (mod. lang.) directed a French immersion workshop for teachers
at Gulf Park College in Pass Christian; Claudine
Chadeyras (mod. lang.) was a workshop instructor. Cheryl
Coker (music) performed Carlisle Floyd’s monodrama "Flower and Hawk"
at Jones Community College. Joan Cotter (mod.
lang.) led a total immersion overnight for students of German at
Twin Lakes Conference Center in Florence. Sarah Lea
McGuire (bio.) and senior student Suzanne Wahrle presented their
research data at the National Association of Cell Biology Conference in
San Francisco. Elizabeth Moak (music) and Uvon Tucker, chapter president,
received the Presidential Certificate of Excellence for leadership in the
chartering of the Millsaps chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon at the International
Mu Phi Epsilon (a professional music fraternity) Convention. Charles
Moore (pol. sc.) presented a paper on welfare reform at the Southeastern
Conference on Public Administration in Pensacola, Fla, and a paper on mayoral
leadership at the Northeastern Political Science Association conference
in Boston. Walter Neely (mgt.) and Pat
Taylor’s (mgt.) paper, "The Process of Post Regulatory Changes and
Industry Development Following Motor Carrier Deregulation," was published
in The Journal of Applied Business Research. Nona
Olivia (class. stud.) spoke on Roman comedy in the Classics Department
Speaker Series at Ole Miss. Darby Ray (rel.
stud.) presented two papers at the American Academy of Religion meeting
in Orlando, Fla. Donald Schwartz (comp. sc.)
presented a paper at the International Conference on Computer Applications
in Industry and Engineering in Las Vegas. The research Lane
Smiley (bio.) worked on with a University of Mississippi Medical
Center group was published in the Journal of Cellular Physiology. Elise
Smith (art) published in Women’s Art Journal on Evelyn De Morgan
and has another article forthcoming in the Journal of Pre-Raphaelite Studies.
Steven Smith (rel. stud.) spoke in the
Academy of Jewish Studies series at Galloway UMC. Kristina
L. Stensaas (chem.) judged the K-8 poster contest sponsored by Mississippi
Section of American Chemical Society held at Jackson State University.
Kurt Thaw (psych.) presented his paper discussing
gastrin-releasing peptide at the annual Society for Neuroscience meeting
in Los Angeles. Johnnie-Marie Whitfield (chem.)
presented at the Conference on Chemical Education at the University of
Waterloo in Canada. Darren Wick (math.) presented
a paper at the American Mathematical Society/ Mathematical Association
of America meeting.
