Millsaps Department of Sociology & Anthropology

The Millsaps Sociology/Anthropology Department has a great deal to offer its students.

And not just in the classroom! Students work on a daily basis with the very faculty who provide excellent research opportunities and study abroad programs at Millsaps College. Our faculty members actively involve students in their own research, offering hands-on training that is available at very few colleges and universities.

Millsaps Department of Sociology & Anthropology

What are sociology and anthropology?

In general, anthropologists and sociologists seek to explain and understand human behavior in a variety of situations and under varying circumstances. We examine the breadth of human lives, including topics like politics, economics, gender, and religion, in an attempt to make sense out of human history and human endeavors.

What makes sociology/anthropology at Millsaps College unique?

The faculty is strongly committed to each student as an individual and works to foster a relationship that provides each student with the best education possible. Not only do these relationships create an active and productive learning environment, but they also generate camaraderie between the students and faculty on a personal level that carries on well after graduation, as students pursue goals in various careers and fields.

Our department thrives on lively discussion and debate. In fact, many of our senior students are busy contemplating the nature of the disciplines right now as they prepare for comps. Click here to see some thoughts from faculty and current students.
