Institutional Web Pages
Institutional web pages are pages created by any department and/or College-related organization. All departments and official organizations at Millsaps College are permitted and encouraged to maintain web pages on the Millsaps website. Their content must be consistent with and in support of the Millsaps Mission Statement.
Each department and/or organization must designate a single information provider to be the point of communication between the department/organization and the Millsaps Web Team. Full-time employees or students currently enrolled at Millsaps are permitted to serve as web representatives. This representative must be identified in the Web Representative Form, which must be signed by the department and/or organization’s chair/director and returned to the Web Manager. Only full-time employees may serve as web representatives for academic or administrative departments unless other arrangements are approved by the Web Manager.
Official units may not hire independent contractors or vendors to develop or maintain the department and/or organization’s pages without advance written approval from the Web Manager. Each department and/or organization's information provider is responsible for assuring that the organization's web pages meet all Millsaps policies, procedures and guidelines, the Student Code of Conduct, and all local, state, and federal laws.
All institutional pages other than "working" pages (i.e. class notes, syllabi, research projects, etc.) or pages designed specifically to provide a source of printed documents must conform to the following design and content standards, in addition to the Web Style Guide and Graphics Standard Manual (coming soon, please check back).
- Each department and/or organization creating pages is responsible for maintaining those pages in a timely manner with the latest information.
- All pages must contain a signature block with the following information: a) The name of the unit responsible for the page. b) An e-mail link to the person responsible for the page.
- All pages must contain a link back to the department and/or organization's home page.
- Department and/or organizational home pages must contain a link back to the Millsaps College home page and a link back to their parent department and/or organization (if any).
- Departmental and/or organizational home pages must include the street address, U.S. Mail address (if different), and telephone number of the organization's main office, or an obvious link to this information.
- If a departmental and/or organizational page utilizes graphics or audio to convey the meaning of the page, an alternative "text-only" page must be made available for people who may not be able to view the graphics or hear the audio.
- Departments and/or organizations creating pages should provide links, if necessary, to pages containing authoritative information outside their areas of responsibility (i.e. policies, admissions, college mission and history, etc.) rather than creating the pages themselves. This is to ensure that the most up-to-date and accurate information is being provided.
- Content authors should pay careful attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation and word use.See the Writer’s Guide for more information.
- Departmental and/or organizational home pages must contain the name of the College (completely spelled out). This can be accomplished through text or Millsaps logos, preferably at the top of the page.
- Department and/or organization home pages must incorporate the official College colors of purple, white and black into their design. The official color of Millsaps purple is PMS 273. The hexadecimal color equivalent is 25177A. This equates to Red=37, Green=23, and Blue=122.
- All pages must be in compliance with Millsaps College's Web Privacy Statement.
