The Pre-Health Advantage at Millsaps College
Millsaps has a long history of providing Mississippi and the surrounding region with well-prepared health care professionals, and that proven record of success is why so many Millsaps students have an advantage when it comes to career options. For example, it is well-known that medical school admission rate for Millsaps graduates is nearly double the national average. Our rigorous curriculum and small class sizes allow for close professor/student interactions, which result in better comprehension and understanding of material. When you come to Millsaps, you are taking the first step along your path into any one of numerous health-related careers including: medical, dental, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, physician assistant, etc.
One of the great things about pre-health pathways at Millsaps College is how many schools already want you to join their program. Millsaps has cooperative agreements with nursing schools, pharmacy schools, and the state and region’s only automatic acceptance program into medical school. At Millsaps, the doors you hope to walk through are already open.
Our Pre-Health Advisory Committee is here to guide you, sponsor seminars with key personnel from the health-related schools, provide mock interviews, and much more. The pre-health honorary, Alpha Epsilon Delta, also sponsors programs with admissions officers and practitioners in these fields. Also helpful is the Medical Mentoring Program at Millsaps, which pairs you with medical professionals (many of whom are Millsaps alumni) for a semester-long experience.
Pharmacy School
The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy offers preferred admission for Millsaps pre-pharmacy students with high academic performance. You can gain entry into the pharmacy program following the first semester of your first year, contingent on meeting specific course requirements, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.25, and demonstrating individual volunteer and service experience. This is ideal if you want the advantages of the Ole Miss Pharmacy Early Entry Program, with the experience of attending a smaller college.
