Mississippi native Gayle Entrekin joined the music department at Millsaps College in 2011 as adjunct flute instructor. She has played 2nd Flute with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and 2nd Flute and Piccolo with the Mississippi Opera since September 2000. Other orchestral performances have been with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans and the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra in Indiana.
In June 2016, Gayle completed her 25th year of teaching music classes at the Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield, where she continues to work with adults, adolescents, and children.
She obtained her bachelors and masters degrees in flute performance as a student of Albert Tipton from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. After graduate school, she studied for four years with the eminent British flutist, Geoffrey Gilbert, at his home in DeLand, Florida. Patti Adams, flutist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, has also been a mentor. Her music education training was received at Indiana University in Bloomington.
