President Search Update – November 13, 2023
Dear Members of the Millsaps College Community,
The President Search Committee continues to work diligently in our search for the next president of Millsaps College. WittKieffer, our recruiting firm, received over 90 applications from prospective candidates. After careful review and evaluation of these applications, the Committee narrowed the field to a smaller group of candidates and has now held initial interviews with these candidates. The Committee has further reduced this group to candidates who represent our finalists. These finalists represent a diverse group, and each finalist possesses unique qualifications that would serve Millsaps well if they were to serve as president.
The Committee is currently undertaking additional vetting of these final candidates in order to make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees. This process requires careful evaluation to ensure we select the absolute best candidate to serve as the 12th president of Millsaps College.
We are appreciative of everyone’s support of this process. I remain appreciative of each of our committee members and thank each for their time and efforts in participating in this process. We look forward to finding the right candidate to lead this great institution. Go Majors!
Yours truly,
Chuck Lathem

President Search Update – September 9, 2023
Dear Members of the Millsaps College Community,
I hope everyone had a good summer. To our students, faculty, and staff, welcome back to campus!
During the summer, the President Search Committee has been busy, working with WittKieffer, our recruiting firm, in accepting nominations and applications from prospective candidates in our search for the 12th president of Millsaps College. This has been, and continues to be, a robust process of answering questions and ensuring our prospects are fully aware of just how great Millsaps College is and the importance of our search.
I am pleased to report substantial interest in the position from a broadly experienced and talented group of candidates. We will continue to accept applications through September 11. In the meantime, committee members are busy reviewing the application information received thus far. We will be meeting later this month to determine which candidates to further engage and evaluate. And while I am incredibly pleased with the process thus far, I am reminded that we must continue to protect the privacy of every candidate in order to ensure the strongest possible pool for our consideration. Each committee member has signed a Code of Ethics which requires that we commit to confidentiality. That said, the committee will be engaging with candidates in multiple interview scenarios, reviewing background information and references and designing a process for introducing finalists to our campus, so they may experience what makes Millsaps great. This will also give candidates an opportunity to evaluate their fit. We appreciate your respect of our process.
We expect to complete our process in late fall. Afterwards, the President Search Committee will meet the Charge, set by the Board of Trustees, in recommending a candidate or candidates.
We are appreciative of everyone’s support of this process and for your nominations of candidates. I am appreciative of each of our committee members and thank each for their time and efforts in participating in this process. We look forward to finding the right candidate to lead this great institution. Go Majors!
Yours truly,
Chuck Lathem

Board of Trustees Announces Search Committee to identify successor to Dr. Robert Pearigen–January 26, 2023
With Robert Pearigen’s departure as Millsaps President as of May 31, 2023, Millsaps is losing an outstanding leader whose deep dedication and service to Millsaps over the past twelve-plus years will leave a lasting legacy. As Rob returns to his alma mater, the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, as vice chancellor and president, the Millsaps board of trustees wish him and Phoebe the very best in their onward journey.
The board has authorized the creation of a president search committee to find the best possible successor to Rob. This committee, headed by vice chair of the board Chuck Lathem, includes representatives of the trustees, faculty, staff, students, and other Millsaps constituencies as appropriate. The board has an abiding interest and optimism in the future of Millsaps College and is fully committed to finding the right leader for the next chapter in Millsaps’ exceptional history.
Provost and dean of the college Keith Dunn has been named to assume the duties of the president as of June 1, 2023. Between today and June first, Rob will continue to be fully engaged as president, in support of Keith as he begins the upcoming transition.
